SHIFTING baselines:
Before the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, people were throwing trash on the ground and in the oceans. When trash is thrown on the ground, the wind blows it into the gutters and it goes to the ocean. People kept doing this and it builds up. Soon, the Great Pacific Garbage Patch formed after there was enough trash and after a while, people got used to it. Before, people didn't worry about a Great Pacific Garbage Patch because there wasn't one and they were used to it. Now with the Garbage Patch here today, people are used to it now.
